Lamayuru ,Chilling ,Markha Trek15 Nights , 16 Days ( LDK/Trk-LCM )
Lamayuru to chilling trek is one of the most famous trek in Ladakh. During your trekking you will come across many villages and high passes. The Valley across the Kanski La has a few huts of shepherds from Hinju where they make butter and cheese. A fantastic view from Dundunchan La (4700 m) and trail Leads to Chilling village where the Zanskar River follows towards Nimo village....Best Time: June to Sept.
Day 1: Arrival at Leh Airport. You will be escorted to the Hotel by our Company representative. Rest for proper acclimatization.
Coming straight to the altitude of min 3,200 m from a much lower place can cause some health problems. So to avoid that, we suggest our guest to take complete rest for a day to get acclimatized. Later there will be a briefing of the program by the agent or by the company representative.
Day 2: Leh SightSeeing
Second day is good to get out doing some sightseeing because you are already acclimatized. So we will Start by visiting Hemis and Thiksey monastery at first and then Stok palace after a hot lunch at Chamba restaurant. O/N in Hotel
Day 3 : Drive to Lamayuru monastery.
Drive to Lamayuru village via Alchi. Have a hot lunch at Alchi after visiting the temple and then head to Lamayuru. You will come across many villages before reaching your destination. Overnight at Hotel
Day 4: Lamayuru to Wanla
From the village with the famous monastery you cross a stream and climb the first pass. After a gradually climb across the mountain side you reach a small valley which follows as far as the first pass Prinkiti-La 3.720 m (12.140 ft). The pass is crossed after a gentle and short climb. Go down into a narrow gorge until reaching the village of Shilla. Cross the river over a bridge and then take the right bank as far as the next village Wanla. Wanla is a pretty village with a gompa high up on crag and makes a pleasant place to stop.
Day 5 :Wanla to Konsila Base
Another 3 hours walking and you reach the village of Shills. Go along the Yapola river for another 2 hours until reaching the village Phanjila (3.300 m). The valley gets more and more beautiful the higher you walk up, with its thick growth of willows and dramatic views back to rock pinnacles on the skyline. You pass the village Hinju (3.750 m) and camp at the foot of the next pass.
Day 6 : Konski La Base to Sumda chenmo via Konski La pass 4,900mt
It is a strenuous climb to the Konzke-La 4.900 m (16.080 ft), but youíre rewarded with views all the way back to the last pass Prinkiti-La 3.720 m (12.140 ft). During the summer month shepherds from Hinju cross the Konzke-La so that they can graze their livestock in this valley. The trail passes some of their huts and enclosures where they make butter, curd and cheese. You may see the cheese spread out on the ground to dry. It is dried into small white nuggets which then keep for years; very little is eaten fresh. From the summit of Konzke-La itís a long descent to pastures. The path gets close to the river. Several good campsites are at the edge of the river. Continue on the left bank along the mountain side to Sumda Chenmo (3.900 m) (12.795 ft.). This isolated village shows few signs of change and the villagers are still largely self-sufficient.
Day 7 : Sumda chenmo to Dung Dung Chen La Base
After Sumdah the path becomes more difficult to follow until reaching shelter formed by rocks. Shelters and pastures are on the half way up to the Dundunchen-La 4.700 m (10.660 ft).
Day 8 : Dung Dung Chen La Base to Chilling
It is a steep climb up to the third pass on this trek. There are fantastic views from the top of Stok Kangri (6.153 m) and Kang Yatse (6.400 m). From the top it is a long and tiring descent to Chilling. The inhabitants of Chilling 3.250 m (10.660 ft.) are the only ones who work with metals such as cooper, tin, silver used for the making pots or tea spots.
Day 9 : Chilling to Skiu (3100 M)
Early in the Morning Walk till Chilling Bridge from there we will cross the Zanskar River Though the Trolley Brigde and then trek to Skyu Village.Chilling is the Starting Point of the Markha Valley trek. Overnight in Skyu Village in Tent
Day 10 : Skiu to Markha (3800 M)
It's a very pleasant hike, up the Markha valley today with the trail crossing numerous streams. Markha is a quaint village with a deserted fort and a small village Overnight in Tents.
Day 11 : Markha to Thochuntse
From Markha the country changes and the warm, relatively heavily wooded sections of the lower Markha is left behind. One will be required to cross the river several times as there are no bridges here. Hankar, en route, is the highest village in the Markha valley. Overnight in Tents.
Day 12 :Thoachungtse to Nyimaling
Trek starts on a good path with several small inclines and a series of grassy ridges. There are a series of mani walls (walls carved with Buddhist prayers) and chortens en route. This is one of the most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh and is dominated by the Kangyatse peak. O/N in Camp/ Home stay.
Day 13 : Nyimaling to Chuskyurmo via Kongmaru la pass (5,100m).
After breakfast start trekking to reach Kongmaru La (5100m). The trek to Kongmaru-La passes through narrow gorges. At the top of the pass, you can get the view of the Ladakh range and the villages of the Indus valley to the north. Cross the pass and proceed to Chuskyurmo. O/N at Camp/ Home stay.
Day 14 :Chuskyurmo to Shang Sumdo pickup.
The last day of the trek is till Shang Sumdo which will take around three hours . We will be picked up by car at the place form where we will be driven to Himis Monastery before proceeding to Leh.Overnight at hotel.
Day 15: Rest and shopping.
Last day is free for you to shop around. You can visit Shanti Stupa afterwards. In the evening there will be a cultural show on demand. O/N at Hotel
Day 16 : Departure.
